A Veteran's Story
A Second Chance: The Mission of the American PTSD Society

Commander Javier Ortiz sat in the back seat of a Lyft car, the weight of his past battles pressing heavily on his chest. The war had ended years ago, but in his mind, it raged on—nightmares, panic attacks, and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. He had tried everything—medication, talk therapy—but nothing truly freed him from the grip of PTSD.
The Lyft driver told him about the American PTSD Society and their groundbreaking Total Relief Method. Skeptical but desperate, Javier and his wife attended a Recovery Session at the Total Relief Method office. There, he met Dr. David Rubenstein, who introduced him to a treatment unlike anything he had ever experienced—no medication, no painful retelling of trauma—just real, immediate relief.

Within minutes of the first session, something shifted. His body, once locked in a constant state of tension, felt lighter. His mind, always on high alert, started to quiet. For the first time in years, he could take a deep breath without feeling like he was drowning.

Javier wasn’t just another statistic—he was living proof that healing was possible. And he wasn’t alone. Thousands of veterans just like him had found a path back to peace through the American PTSD Society, a nonprofit dedicated to saving lives and restoring hope.

Today, Javier is a mentor for other struggling veterans and the Director of Veteran Affairs for American PTSD Society, spreading the word about the organization that gave him a second chance. The American PTSD Society isn’t just fighting PTSD and veteran suicide—it’s fighting for the heroes who once fought for us.
